Despite appearances, Kaneki hasn't been completely human for nearly a year now, and while ghouls looked like humans for the most part, the second they activated their powers that changed a great deal. So, while it was a bit strange to see aliens that were completely separate from the evolutionary branch that humans seemed to come from, it wasn't so shocking after having gotten used to becoming an entirely different species (in part, at least) himself.
